Multi-skills Africa strengthens and contributes to employment-oriented skills development for young people in Africa. We prepare youth for employment and entrepreneurship opportunities by working at the intersection of education and livelihood. We integrate vocational education with mainstream education at the Junior Secondary Schools (JSS 2 and JSS 3). This will influence their career choice in later years and enhance their employability status.

In ordinary schools, students learn by ....... In MSTP schools, students learn by doing and earn by experience.
Theoretical knowledge and academic qualifications are important BUT practicalizing knowledge is more important. It's like walking your talk. - MSTP.
Education is the process of acquisition of knowledge. The most successful people after school are those who invest in hands-on education and experiential knowledge.
In life, you learn what happened and why by explaining. In MSTP schools, you add how to and how not to do ... by experience.
In ordinary schools the biggest lessons are learnt in class. In MSTP schools, the biggest lessons are learnt in the laboratory of doing.
Africa faces a significant challenge with high rates of youth unemployment despite universities churning out thousands of graduates every year. One of the primary issues with the education structure in Africa is the traditional academic system that focuses solely on theory, leaving students ill-equipped to appropriate their learning for self-sustenance. Most schools in Africa still rely on textbook teaching, which limits students' ability to learn through real-life experiences. This approach results in students struggling with retaining information, lacking motivation to continue learning, having limited career choices, and missing out on opportunities to discover themselves.
According to a report by the International Labor Organization (ILO), an average of 13.6% of youths are unemployed globally, while around one-fifth of young people worldwide are NEET (not in employment, education, or training). Many who secure jobs end up working for very low wages despite their qualifications which classifies them as under-employed and adds to the continent's poverty index.
Investing in education is a priority for many African governments but the rate of school dropouts keeps increasing. Unfortunately, most governments have not embraced the right approach to education to recognize, value and reward students' talents and abilities. Practical hands-on learning is more exciting and resourceful for students.
Lend-A-Hand India (LAHI) is a Non-Governmental Organization that enhances the quality of secondary education and addresses youth unemployment. Their flagship program, the Multi Skills Foundation Course (MSFC) has been successfully implemented in more than 500 schools across India. Co-founded by Sunanda Mane, LAHi has made significant progress in reducing absenteeism and dropout rates in many rural schools in Maharashtra.
In partnership with Accent-Spring Initiative, they have successfully introduced the MSFC as Multi Skills Teenpreneurship Program (MSTP) in Africa, kicking off from Ondo State, Nigeria, in May 2023. The Ondo State Government through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has also warmly embraced this first-of-its-kind initiative in Nigeria and Africa featuring nine pilot schools from its three senatorial districts.
MSTP recognizes education as a human capital investment that ultimately yields results translating into growth and advancement for the African continent. Proper education for teens and youth enables them to efficiently carry out tasks that enhance their cognitive skills and equip them to become active contributors to the national economy. In an age of job mobility, African youths need more than just certificates; they require vocational and entrepreneurial skills to compete favorably in the global labor market.
